Education and Citizenship

Citizenship & Advocacy

Citizenship & Advocacy Programme aspires to create a system of development collectives, held together by enabled youth and adult volunteers from the community, known as the active citizens (Actizens). Designed to break intergenerational marginalisation, the programme stands on four essential pillars, Self-Awareness, Social Awareness, Critical Thinking and Collective Action. It empowers community adolescents and youth to understand the self in relation to the society, one’s role as a citizen and importance of collectivisation in demanding rightful entitlements. The programme supports change-making processes contributing to:

  • Understanding and acknowledging challenges faced by the community
  • Taking ownership and responsibility towards mobilisation of the community
  • Collaborating with civil society and government institutions to ensure access to basic amenities and opportunities
