Prevent adolescents from dropping out of education

The transition from childhood to adulthood is a flimsy but powerful phase of every individual’s life that can alter one’s future forever. Vulnerable young minds are driven by curiosity and are prone to influences of all sorts. However, social taboos and myths often deprive them of seeking complete knowledge or correct mentorship and they fall prey to unhealthy behaviors (such as drug abuse, risky sexual practices, violence, etc), or psychological disorders such as depression & anxiety.

Elevate Adolescents’ mission is to empower youth from underserved neighborhoods by cultivating long-term mentoring relationships through engagement in transformative outdoor experiences.

Our current focus is on adolescents and we aim to ensure that they continue their education and don’t get married before the legal age. This is a cluster of scholarship and youth mentor-led programs that enabled programs that enabled adolescents to school. Underage marriage among adolescents in the Apnalaya program is less than 0.16% and dropout is 4.8% compared to 33% in Mumbai suburban

Teenage is a critical phase of life as your child is at the threshold of adulthood. As a parent, the idea of your teen dropping out of school may be your worst nightmare! But teens dropping out of school is a harsh reality. Here are a few of the primary reasons why teenagers drop out from educational institutions

Alcohol And Substance Abuse
A lot of teenagers leave high school and studies owing to medicine dependence and substance abuse. Alcohol dependence is also another reason that explains why teenagers drop out of senior secondary education.
Economic Hardships
In several developing countries like India, poverty forces a lot of teenagers to drop out of school. At times, teens who are good scholars and want to pursue advanced studies fail to do so because of family pressure and time constraints. Financial forces may force them to quit education and take up jobs to support their family.
Sexual Abuse
Some teenagers indeed face sexual molestation by school teachers. The victim may find it hard to discuss this with others. Such a traumatic incident can take a risk on their academic performance and may make them quit studies.
Special Diseases
Some children aren't handicapped or physically impaired. But in some cases, they may develop certain diseases like dyslexia or ADHD. Teens who are suffering from these conditions frequently fail to concentrate on their studies. Occasionally, the beginning problem may go undetected both by the mentors and parents, and the teens may face review for their poor performance at schools. A lack of empathy and incapability to manage with adding academic pressure may make them vulnerable and force them to leave high school without any notice
Family Problems And Violence
Occasionally, teens end up bearing the mass of family violence and divorce. Teens who belong to broken families, frequently find it hard to concentrate on studies or pursue advanced education.
