GEETANJALI JHA CHAKRABORTY

Geetanjali Jha Chakraborty has been involved with Apnalaya for a long time and has been on the board since 2018. She has a diverse background, with the early years in the corporate sector and more than a decade in the Social Sector. Geetanjali has held leadership and CEO level roles in Concern India Foundation, CHILDLINE India Foundation, and ARMMAN, and is currently on the board of Foundation for Mother and Child Health and a global advisor to Tech Care For All. She is passionate about child protection, urban inequality, and mental health. Geetanjali has a Masters in Social Work and a Masters in Human Rights and Criminal Law. She loves to read on Buddhist philosophy, practice yoga, and enjoys solitary walks. She brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her role at Apnalaya.

SUMAN SRIVASTAVA

Secretary

Suman Srivastava is the Founder and Innovation Artist at Marketing Unplugged. A graduate of Delhi University, IIM Ahmedabad and IMD Lausanne, he is an advertising man, strategist, author and entrepreneur. He has been the CEO of Euro RSCG India and also the Chief Strategy Officer for Euro RSCG Asia Pacific. He was the Chairman of Euro RSCG’s emerging markets planning council and a member of the global management committee. Lastly, he was Vice Chairman & Chief Strategy Officer of FCB Ulka Group in India. He is active in the voluntary sector where he works on causes that range from schooling for slum children to child sexual abuse to rural tourism to skill development. He is currently part of the leadership team at Indian School of Development Management (ISDM). He is a member of iVolunteer’s Whiteboard initiative.

VRINDA MAHADEVIA

Treasurer

Vrinda Mahadevia works with Julius Baer Wealth Advisory (India) Pvt. Ltd. as Managing Director Senior Advisory. She is also a trustee of Pranic Healing Foundation of Maharashta, and has volunteered with Akanksha and with Jai Vakil School.

Annabel Mehta

Annabel Mehta has been working for underprivileged communities in India for over 40 years and in 2017 was honoured with a Member of the British Empire (MBE) award for her selfless service. A graduate of Social Administration from London School Economics, Annabel has been involved in Apnalaya since 1973, was the Treasurer for many years before becoming the President in 2013. Annabel has also been a Board member of GiveIndia, a Founder Member of the Spastics Society of India and a member of the Accreditation Committee of Credibility Alliance. She stepped down as President in 2020.

Our Leadership Team

Arun Kumar

CEO

Arun has worked with Social Purpose Organisations for over two decades. Through the lens of social justice and non-violence, Arun has engaged with issues of marginalisation, both, in urban and rural spaces. He develops programmes and strengthens organisations invested in holistic development of communities on the margin. A student of Historical-Sociology, Arun obtained his doctorate from Binghamton University, USA; has authored three books and several articles. Arun writes stories for children and poems for adults and has trained himself to make documentary films.

Ninad Salunkhe

COO

Ninad has an interesting background in Health Programme Management. Trained as an Ayurvedic Doctor, Ninad obtained a Master’s of Science, Health Services & Hospital Management, at London South Bank University. He began his career in social development with SNEHA NGO, working on malnutrition among children. He joined Apnalaya as Director, Health & Disability and expanded his skill sets to take up the role of Chief Operating Officer. He translates his interest in nutrition to his passion for food.

Poornima Nair

Director, Health & Disability

Poornima joined Apnalaya as Director, Health & Disability in 2018. She has a Master’s in Science, Public Health and Nutrition from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. Poornima brings almost a decade of experience in maternal and child health and nutrition to Apnalaya. She has managed operations of clinical services and worked as a monitoring and evaluation fellow, documenting practices regarding infant and young child feeding and care in a tribal community. Poornima joined the Foundation for Mother and Child Health and eventually became Head of the Nutrition Team and later Director (POSHAN). Her keen interest in micro-nutrients makes Poornima our coveted lunch-time food inspector.

Malathy Madathilezham

Director, Education & Livelihoods

Malathy is passionate about gender and caste, participatory development and citizenship, joined Apnalaya as Director, Education & Livelihoods in 2018. With over eight years of experience, Malathy has straddled both for profit and non-profit sectors. She holds a Master’s in Habitat Policy & Practice from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management. She has worked with the Maharashtra State Rural Livelihoods Mission, managing partnerships, and has also led a UNICEF supported life skills and entrepreneurship skill development project during her tenure as State Gender Coordinator with Sparsh. She has strong project management and facilitation skills. A resident yoga guru, Malathy has a deep love for cats.

Raghunandan Hegde

Director, Impact

Raghunandan has a strong commitment to social justice, and a keen interest in technology and its potential in addressing structural inequity. With close to a decade and a half of experience across programme strategy, operations, monitoring and evaluation and project management, Raghu joined Apnalaya in [November 2019] as the [Director, Impact]. He is passionate about tennis, traveling and open source software.

Pratima Aggarwal

Director, Sustainability

Pratima Aggarwal is a strong believer in the power of commitment and compassion in changing and shaping the world around us. An engineer by education, she made the decision to quit her job at Infosys, to work as a teacher in a government school. She has ever since persevered to build and multiply the impact of organisations working in the sector of environment, livelihoods, and education.

Pratima joined Apnalaya as Director – Sustainability in July 2020. With over 14 years of experience in various sectors, Pratima brings with her a strong sense of passion and empathy which are the driving force in her work. She is passionate about biking, sports and can often be found completely absorbed in a game of puzzles, during her free time.
