Organised by Apnalaya, one of the best NGOs for urban poor in India, the event was an opportunity for youth from underserved communities of Shivaji Nagar to speak about their identities, in a city that makes them feel invisible, and raise awareness about their area, which is often ignored.

COVID-19 and its effects, developed as they did at the turn of the decade, gave everyone an opportunity to pause. At Apnalaya, we used this opportunity to think about where we would like to be in ten years’ time.

The defining event of 2020 has been the COVID-19 pandemic. The compounding of already existent inequalities and challenges of the urban poor has led to a disproportionate negative impact of the pandemic as compared to the city’s more fortunate residents.
